Board members fill an "influential" position in town government, says Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi. Members review applications for residential subdivisions, multi-family dwellings, site plans and commercial buildings. Puglisi said the positions are coveted in the town and a half dozen resumes already have been received.

"We want people who are interested in the planning, in infrastructure, the aesthetics, the economic and residential growth of the town, a reasonable approach," Puglisi said. "Somebody who has a reasonable rational approach. We don't want it overdeveloped, yet we know someone has certain rights to do something on their property," she said.

The position is appointed by the Cortlandt Town Board, members serve seven-year terms and are paid a $4,488 annual stipend. Members are expected to attend twice monthly meetings and occasionally visit sites, usually on Sunday mornings.

Members don't have to be construction or engineering professionals although knowledge of the town's neighborhoods, commercial developments and land issues helps. The board receives professional guidance from town staff, including engineers, planners and the town attorney.

Applicants will be interviewed by the town board and supervisor. Interested applicants should send a resume and letter of interest to Puglisi at 1 Heady St., Cortlandt, NY 10567, or email a letter of interest and resume to claudiav@townofcortlandt.com. The closing date for resumes is Dec. 28.
