"Westchester County is enormously proud to see native-son Governor George E. Pataki entering the race for president," Astorino said in a statement. "This marks the second ‘Westchesterite’ to enter this year's presidential contest.

“Gov. Pataki has an extraordinary record of public service, and his deeply-held commitment to environmental conservationism in particular, akin to that of another New York Republican, President Theodore Roosevelt, will greatly enhance the Republican primary debate,” continued Astorino. “On behalf of the entire County of Westchester, I wish Governor Pataki Godspeed in his pursuit of the Oval Office. He makes his home county proud."

Pataki announced his run for president Thursday.
