“Last night, despite being outspent by an enormous sum, despite our opponent having 26 years in office, and despite a substantial registration disadvantage, we came closer to victory than anyone ever has against Congresswoman Lowey,” Day, an Army veteran, said in a statement on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Lowey, who was elected to a 14th term, won with 59 percent of the vote at 56,710 votes, according to unofficial results.

"I am humbled and honored that the voters of the 17th District have chosen me as their representative for another term,” said Lowey, who was first elected in 1988 and is a member of the Appropriations Committee.

Day, who also ran on the Conservative line, had 41 percent of the vote at 38,640 votes, according to unofficial results.

“Despite being outspent by a tremendous amount -- in fact, our opponent spent more than she ever has on our race -- we turned out a huge proportion of the vote,” said Day, who served as manager for his father Ed Day’s campaign for Rockland county executive.

OpenSecrets.org reported that Lowey, a member of the Appropriations Committee, raised almost $2 million and spent $1.8 million as of Oct. 15. Day, the vice president of Selway Capital marketing investment firm, raised only $162,410 and spent $115,381 as of Oct. 15, according to the website.

“There are many tough issues facing our country, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to find solutions in a bipartisan manner,” said Lowey.

The 17th District covers Armonk, Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson, Greenburgh, Harrison, Mount Kisco, Mount Pleasant, Ossining, Peekskill, Pleasantville, Port Chester, Valhalla, White Plains, part of Scarsdale, part of Yorktown and most of Rockland County.
