To the Editor,

As we get closer to Thanksgiving, I have been thinking about the many things

I am grateful for. I have been very lucky to have been able to serve my

community as an elected official, and I am very grateful for the women who

have paved the way for me and my colleagues at all levels of government. As

a state, we have been going through a year of thanksgiving, thanks for the

women who fought for the right to vote and succeeded 100 years ago, and

thanks for the waves of women and men who have fought for equality for all

citizens.

Our state, like our country, has been built around a framework that allows

people to stand up for themselves and for their beliefs. Women have been

mobilizing since the early days of our nation in the fight to be seen as

equal to men. Generations of women have paved the road for today's women to

have greater access to education, employment, and government. I remember, as

many of you may, watching and reading as the second wave feminists took the

stage in the 1960s.

I invite you to join me on December 5th at 6:30 pm in the Ossining Public

Library's Budarz Theater to watch the documentary "She's Beautiful When

She's Angry." I had the opportunity to watch it with many of my colleagues

in Albany this past spring, and found the movie to be informational,

enjoyable, and empowering. I am glad to have the opportunity to share this

movie with my community. After the film, we will have a discussion about

women's rights and the varying experiences of women of different generations

with three of my constituents, Dru van Hengel, Ginny Loughlin, and Emily

Loughlin.

I hope you will join me on December 5th to see the film and take a moment to

be grateful for how far we have come, and those who will continue to break

down barriers in the future.
