PEEKSKILL, N.Y. Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (D-Ossining) stopped by the city riverfront Monday to tout her environmental record ahead of the Nov. 6 election.
The past two years have seen several pieces of environmental legislation signed into law that protect residents and area water supplies and promotes alternative energy sources, said Galef, running for re-election in the 95th Assembly District.
"We did not have good revenue sources for our budgets, but we were able to do a lot for the environment this year," Galef said.
Galef listed new laws including The Sewage Pollution Right to Know Act, which increases public notice of sewage discharges; a law allowing the New York Power Authority to produce a report detailing best practices with regard to energy cost savings for schools; a bill allowing municipalities to provide a real property tax exemption for improvements to real property that meet standards for green buildings and a law to limit the spread of invasive species by allowing the state to regulate the sale, purchase, possession, introduction, importation, and transport and penalize those not in compliance.
Galef was joined by members of the League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club Lower Hudson Group, who announced their endorsement of Galef due to her work in Albany over the past two years.

She received a rating of 105 percent from the Environmental Advocates. This is the highest possible rating. In addition, she was instrumental in the passage of the Water Resources Protection Act which established a permitting system for large water withdrawals. These are just a few of the accomplishments that moved the Lower Hudson Sierra Club to endorse her.
