The Department ofTransprotation is giving Hudson Valley municipalities $4.4 million to help improve their roads. The money is part of the DOT's Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS), Extreme Winter Recovery (EWR) and Local PAVE-NY 2017-18 budget.

Westchester County will get $3,484,677.68; Putnam County will receive $878,593.85, and Dutchess County will get $64,940.76.

"If our roads crumble, so does our ability to attract new business to the Hudson Valley. As our towns and villages continue to grow, we need to make sure our roads are safe and trouble-free," said Senator Terrence Murphy (R-Yorktown) "There's no Republican or Democratic way to fix a pothole - only the right way. With an increase in funding, towns will be getting an additional bump to fix all those bumps in the roads."

Michael Simone, Superintendent for the Carmel Highway Department, said any money from the state is a huge help.

"It costs roughly a million dollars to pave six miles of road," said Simone. "It could take 30 or 40 years to pave all the local roads. Residents are happy because the money they sent to Albany now comes back to them in form of a better, safer roadway."

Peter Sciliano, superintendent of the Mount Pleasant Highway Department said the money will allow them to fill more potholes.

"We pave at least four miles of road each year," Sciliano said. "The additional funds will literally help us get further down the road."

In Westchester, Briarcliff will be getting $276,894.18, Buchanan is getting $70,028, Cortlandt is getting $427,370,54, Croton-on-Hudson is getting $208,928.59, Lewisboro is getting $212,036.10, Mount Kisco is getting $151,222.57, Mount Pleasant is getting $345,904.87, New Castle is getting $315,833.07, North Salem is getting $138,547.61, Peekskill is getting $376,141.28, Pleasantville is getting $137,073.59, Pound Ridge is getting $180,544.73, Sleepy Hollow is getting $142,693.97, Somers is getting $310,518.28 and Yorktown is getting $535,845.17.
