Rumors of Clinton's candidacy began swirling not long after President Barack Obama secured his second term in the Oval Office in 2012. The former Secretary of State and First Lady evaded questions regarding her potential candidacy for years, but her intentions became clear when she began hiring staffers and leased office space in Brooklyn, Business Insider reported

The announcement is expected to be made with a four-minute video posted on her Twitter account. Clinton's Twitter account is @hillaryclinton.

Following the announcement, Clinton will hit the campaign trail with a trip to Iowa, Politico.com said

Several polls show Clinton as the clear favorite from the Democratic side of the fence. Republican rivals who have already announced their candidacy include Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Business Insider said.

Clinton, who also ran in 2008, is the first Westchester-based candidate to run for president since Samuel Tilden lost to Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876.
