The arrest stemmed from a report police received from a staff member of B.J.’s Wholesale Club on Jan. 30, according to officials.

Officers were told that a child was left alone in a car, had exited the vehicle and was wandering around, police report.

When police arrived at the scene, the child and the guardian were no longer there, officials report.

A follow-up investigation identified Brenda Guerrero, 31, as the child’s parent and determined that she had allegedly left her child unattended in her vehicle, police report.

Guerrero surrendered at police headquarters and was placed under arrest on Thursday; she was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor, according to police.

Guerrero was processed and released on her own recognizance, officials report.

She is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court for arraignment on Thursday, March 10, according to police.
