Theresa A. Sager of Alfred, Maine, was driving to her home state from Texas when she stopped in Kent to try to sell the weapon at the Precision Armory gun store on Route 52, according the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Instead of buying the weapon during the Feb. 16 encounter, staff at the store called police, telling investigators that Sager was trying to sell the gun without the legally required documentation, police said.

When officers arrived, they found Sager in possession of not one, but two unregistered firearms – a .32-caliber revolver and a .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol, authorities said.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Sager told deputies that “she had acquired the firearms in Texas while living there and was moving back to Maine; she said she was trying to sell a firearm to the gun store for gas money to continue her trip.”

Sager was arrested and later arraigned in Southeast Town Court, where she was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, authorities said. She was released without bail and will answer to the charges at a later date.
