Two Croton Men Charged With DWI In Mount Pleasant

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. – An intoxicated Croton man thought he could hide at the Hawthorne Home Depot after his car collided with another vehicle and he left the scene, which led to his arrest, Mount Pleasant police said.

About 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, police arrested Eric Schmidt, 38, of Croton, on charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, both misdemeanors. Police said Schmidt collided with another car on Route 9A in Hawthorne and then fled to the nearby Home Depot. Police found Schmidt in the Home Depot bathroom.

The driver of the car that Schmidt struck suffered minor injuries and declined medical attention.

The following items also were reported by Mount Pleasant police:

DWI Crash: A two-car accident on Route 117 in Briarcliff Manor late Sunday, Nov. 11, left two drivers hospitalized and one under arrest. Jaime Ayroa, 26, of Croton-on-Hudson was charged with DWI and operating a vehicle without a license, both misdemeanors. Police said Ayroa and the driver of the other car, who suffered minor injuries, both needed to be extracted from their cars by firefighters and were sent to Westchester Medical Center. Police said Ayroa suffered a fractured leg and his foot was impaled by his car's gas pedal.

Suspended License: An Ossining man was arrested Saturday morning, Nov. 10, on a felony charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended license. Joseph Rampersant, 36, was charged after his car was pulled over for a highway infraction, police said. Rampersant's license has been suspended 17 times, police said.
