PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - In separate incidents, City of Peekskill Police Officers, conducting alcohol compliance checks, arrested two individuals on Thursday, June 12, according to the Peekskill Police Department.

Detective John Merritt and Officer Pam Sgroi, working with an underage agent, attempted to purchase alcohol from licensed establishments in the city.

Khaleel A. Nagi, 19, of Peekskill resident, a clerk at the Peekskill Deli located at 501 Highland Ave., and Shane Williams, 29, of Peekskill, a clerk at the Valentine Deli located at 943 Second St., were each charged with Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a minor. Both were issued appearance tickets to appear in Peekskill City Court on July 1 at 11 a.m. to answer the charges.

In addition to the criminal charges the clerks are facing, the two establishments that illegally sold alcohol are facing heavy fines and/or the suspension or revocation of their liquor licenses by the State Liquor Authority.

"We will work with the District Attorney’s office and the State Liquor Authority to see that these establishments are held strictly accountable for their failures to abide by the laws and responsibilities that come with the privilege to sell alcohol," Peekskill Police said in a statement.

The establishments that refused to sell to the underage agent were: Deli Brothers, 1401 Main St.; Stop & Go, 733 South St.; Chez Mini-Market, 590 South St.; Gavilan Grocery - 601 South St.; and South Street Market & Deli - 900 South St.
