The house, located along Branch Street, held three occupants and a dog, McManus added.
Firefighters were dispatched at 4:52 p.m., according to Fire Chief Albert Melillo. Smoke, which was not immediately visible, was subsequently discovered.
“During an investigation we found heavy smoke in the rear of the building," Melillo said.
The fire was put out within 20 minutes, McManus said, with the overall situation under control within about 40 minutes. "Under control," McManus explained, entails a broader set of factors, including reaching 100-percent confirmation that the fire is out, that it did not spread and that there were no victims.
The house, which is located in the Colony neighborhood, sustained fire damaged in the basement and rear of the first floor, McManus said. In total, about 30 to 40 percent of the structure sustained fire damage, while all of it had smoke damage.
Mutual aid, according to McManus, was provided by firefighters from Croton Falls, Somers, Katonah, South Salem, Bedford Hills and Mount Kisco. The Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps (LVAC) was also present.
