Putnam Sheriff Charges Mahopac Woman With Providing False Information

CARMEL, N.Y. -- Investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department have charged a 53-year-old Mahopac woman with a pair of misdemeanors after she allegedly provided false information about a case, authorities said.

Deputies responded to a complaint made in the lobby at the Sheriff’s Department on May 11 about 9:45 p.m., police report.

The complainant stated that she was the victim of a pedestrian hit-and-run accident that occurred in the Mahopac section of Carmel, according to officials.

The case was turned over to criminal investigators from the Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation, police report.

Following a lengthy inquiry, the investigators charged Kerry A. Massi with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and with making a punishable false written statement on May 13, according to officials.

The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility, issued an appearance ticket and released on her own recognizance, police report.

She is scheduled to appear in Carmel Justice Court on Monday, June 20, according to officials.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, Massi could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
