Police Pursue Suspect In Cortlandt Town Center Fraudulent Check Case

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- The New York State Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman wanted for allegedly conning a man into cashing a fraudulent check at the CitiBank in the Cortlandt Town Center.

Police received notice of the fraud on Friday, Sept. 2, when the victim told state police that on Saturday, June 18, at about 3:04 p.m., a woman, believed to be in her early 40’s, asked him to cash a check for her, state police said. 

The victim deposited the check into his account and withdrew approximately $800 in cash to give the woman. The victim later discovered that the New York City based business check was fraudulent when his account became overdrawn, state police said.

The suspect is described as being approximately 6-feet, with straight, shoulder-length hair. She may have been driving a green sedan.

Anyone with information regarding the woman's identity is asked to contact the State Police BCI in Cortlandt at 914-788-8044 and refer to Case No. 7112132.
