Croton Police: Girl Tells Teacher Man Approached Her in Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Croton police are searching for an unidentified man who reportedly approached a 9-year-old in the third-grade wing of Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School on Tuesday.

Police said the girl reported the incident first to her teacher before being interviewed by police. Police said the girl gave conflicting accounts as to whether she was offered candy by the man. The girl reported she and the unidentified man were alone in the hallway just before dismissal, police said, between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m.

Croton Police said the incident was reported to them by the girl's teacher. Police said they interviewed the girl and she described the man as white, about 6-feet-tall with blonde hair, wearing black shoes, black shirt, black jacket, black pants and had a black brief case.

Police said they checked the area after the incident was reported but were unable to locate any individuals matching the description of the unidentified man.

The matter is under investigation by school officials and police and as of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the 9-year-old girl is the only witness, police said. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Croton Police Detective Division, at 914-271-5177.

Police said it is unclear if there is security footage of the individual.
