PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – A Peekskill man was arrested by state police and charged with unlawfully collecting unemployment last Wednesday.

Wagner Alava-Giler, 35, is accused of collecting at least $7,400 in unemployment benefits. He had certified that he was unemployed while actually working.

State police charged Alava-Giler with two first-degree felonies: offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records.

Alava-Giler was to appear in Peekskill Town Court today.
