Morningside Drive Gas Main Break Forces Evacuation

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Morningside Drive residents were evacuated for approximately an hour and a half Wednesday morning, after a Con Edison contractor inadvertently damaged a gas line, causing a leak.

Neighbors said about 10 homes in the area were evacuated at 9 a.m. as a result of damage caused by a backhoe operated by a Con Edison contractor, which damaged a one-inch service connection to 28 Morningside Drive.

Allan Drury, a Con Edison spokesperson, said the damage occurred near a four-inch, high pressure gas main, which supplies gas to numerous homes on the street. No injuries occurred, and the leak is being repaired.
