Mohegan Lake Mother Arrested After Reportedly Stabbing Son

MOHEGAN LAKE, N.Y. -- A 51-year-old Mohegan Lake woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing her autistic son during a domestic dispute Wednesday evening, police said.

Police said Mohegan Lake resident Evelyn Winters was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stabbing her 19-year-old autistic son.

Evelyn Winters, 51, reportedly "stabbed her son with a knife causing a minor injury and also smashed his Xbox console," according to a press release from New York State Police in Cortlandt. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. Wednesday in an apartment at 3489 Lexington Ave. in Mohegan Lake, police said.

It is unclear whether Winters' 19-year-old son needed medical care following the incident. 

Winters was charged with second-degree assault and third degree criminal mischief - both felonies. She was later arraigned in Cortlandt Justice Court and sent to Westchester County Jail on a $1,000 cash bail. Winters is set to appear in court at 9 a.m. Monday.
