Carlos Garcia, 56, of Clarksville, Tenn., was driving his blue Yamaha motorcycle when he crashed around 2 p.m. on the winding section of Bear Mountain Bridge Road, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.

State police received a call regarding the crash that reported the motorcycle had burst into flames on the roadway, McMorris said.

When troopers arrived they found the burning motorcycle, but after searching, could not find the driver, she added.

The roadway was closed in both directions for about an hour following the crash and during the search, officials said.

Later Saturday afternoon, Garcia walked into the park police office on Bear Moutain looking for his motorcycle, McMorris said.

"He told officers he had been run off the road and was transported by a passer-by to Orange County Hospital for minor injuries," she said.

Park police contacted state troopers who issued Garcia several tickets including traveling at an unsafe speed, leaving the scene of an accident and moving from a lane unsafely, McMorris said.

The motorcycle was destroyed.
