Man Who Flees After Dutchess Stop Charged With Cocaine Possession

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- A 45-year-old Ulster County man was arrested for failure to comply -- and multiple other charges -- Thursday night after a traffic stop on Route 9 in the Town of Hyde Park.

Richard Whitted of Marlboro, N.Y. was arrested about 8:30 p.m., according to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Whitted was stopped for traffic violations, but fled in his vehicle and then on foot.

Whitted was arrested a short time later and found to allegedly be in possession of cocaine. He was charged with: felony fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation, operation without required interlock device, unlawful possession of marijuana and various traffic infractions.

After being processed, Whitted was arraigned in the Town of Hyde Park Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail with no bail.
