WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Yorktown man was arrested and charged after police found him to be in possession of a hypodermic needle containing heroin at a gas station.

Joseph J. Stingone, 33, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Police said they observed a male in a vehicle at 11:30 p.m. on July 5 parked at the Mobil gas station on Route 35 near the intersection of Route 202 that appeared to need assistance, police said. Police then said they discovered Stingone in possession of the needle. He was arrested and transported back to the police department.

Stingone was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on August 8.
