Capt. John Watterson said that the suspect threatened a clerk at Smokes 4 Less -- a chain store that sells cigars, cigarettes, vape pens and smoking accessories -- and then fled in a white sedan with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect was later tracked down and arrested by town of Poughkeepsie police, Watterson said.

The two people inside the vehicle are being questioned in connection with the robbery and recent similar incidents in Dutchess County, he added.

The store, located at 1520 Route 55, was hit about 12:50 p.m., police said. The store lists its address as 1516 Route 55, however.

Smokes 4 Less, which is headquartered in Poughkeepsie, could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

The Sheriff's Office is being assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police and the town of Poughkeepsie police.
