Mahopac Woman Charged With Forging Checks

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 31-year-old Mahopac woman is facing multiple felony charges after a four-month investigation involving forged checks, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.

The results of the investigation revealed Sheri L. Alexander of East Lake Boulevard was responsible for the theft of the checks from a Stormville residence, fraudulently completed the checks, forged the account holder’s signature and cashed the checks at the Carmel branch of the Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, causing a loss of $2,950 to the financial institution, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Alexander and arrested her at the Orange County Jail in Goshen, where she was being held on similar charges. 

Alexander was charged with one count of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony; 12 counts of forgery in the first degree, a felony; and 12 counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor.

The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Justice Court and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000.00 bail or $15,000.00 bond pending a future court appearance.

Detectives from the Town of East Fishkill Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were also involved in the investigation.
