Girl, 8, Slightly Hurt When Hit By Car In Croton

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – An 8-year-old girl was struck by a car on Grand Street but suffered only minor injuries on Friday, June 22, Croton police said. The girl was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla and was later released.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m., when the girl and her father were crossing the street and the girl escaped her father's grasp and ran into traffic, police said.

The driver reported trying to stop before hitting the girl, police said. Police received calls saying the girl was hurt, but alert and conscious. Police could not say what kind of car hit the girl, but said the driver was a Peekskill resident.

The following items also were reported by Croton police:

Motorcycle Hits Car: Several callers reported an accident on Route 9 northbound, where a motorcycle rear-ended a car. Police said the driver of the car, a 2004 Subaru, which was hit by a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, also called to report the incident. The motorcyclist declined medical attention and was able to drive away. Police could not say how fast the car and the motorcycle were going. The incident was reported about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23.

Firetruck Loses Hose: The Croton Fire Department's Tanker 10 responded to an alarm on Teatown Road, driving on Route 9 southbound, when a hose fell off, causing damage to a 2000 Saab that hit the hose. The car's right front side and tire were damaged. Police could not say how severe the damage was. The incident was reported just after noon Tuesday, June 26.

DWI: Police said they stopped a vehicle for failing to signal a lane change and driving on the shoulder about 1:20 p.m. Sunday, June 24. Eduardo Kleber Sanchez, 41, was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation and felony driving while intoxicated. The charges are felonies because of a prior conviction. The Westchester District Attorney's Office asked for bail of $15,000, and Village Justice Sam R. Watkins Jr. set bail at $3,000. Sanchez was unable to post bail and was taken to the Westchester County jail.

DWI: Alan Cesnavicius, 27, of Furnace Dock Road was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated after he was stopped on Route 9 northbound. Bail was set at $250, which Cesnavicius posted. He is due back in Village Court on July 11.

Credit Card Fraud: A resident of Van Cortlandt Place reported fraudulent charges on his credit card. Police interviewed the man and said a report is being filed. The incident was reported at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, June 21.

Stolen Bike: A Croton resident reported that his gray men's mountain bike was stolen from the Croton-Harmon train station. He described the bike as having a clip-on carrier and "tag-along" attachment. The incident was reported about 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 22.

Ordinance Violation: Two people were going door-to-door soliciting for the "Children's Fund International," police said. A caller described the pair as a male in a suit and a "male or female" dressed "shabbily." The pair were advised by Croton police that door-to-door soliciting requires a village permit. The incident was reported about 4 p.m. Thursday, June 21.
