In May, troopers from the Cortlandt barracks were dispatched to investigate a fraud complaint. An unidentified suspect reportedly entered a DSW store in the Cortlandt Town Center, removed a pair of shoes from the shelf and used another person’s receipt to make a fraudulent return, police said.

In June, the suspect’s image was displayed on the New York State Police Facebook page requesting public assistance to help make an identification. Troopers received an anonymous tip identifying Danielle M. Carey, 27, as a possible suspect, police said. An investigation confirmed Carey was responsible for the fraudulent return, police said.

Carey was arraigned and sent to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail, police said.
