The suspects are boyfriend Eric A. Hawkins, 29, and girlfriend Jennifer Giorgio, 44, according to the sheriff's office. The two have been charged with second-degree robbery, which is a Class C felony.

A detective who works for the store, located by Route 52, reported the matter to the sheriff's department at around 10:45 a.m. on March 21. The store detective alleges that he was punched by Hawkins while the couple was fleeing.

The sheriff's department and Kent Police subsequently found the suspects in Kent after a search.

The two were arraigned by Patterson Town Justice Michael Caruso, who acted on behalf of Carmel's local court, the sheriff's office said.

Hawkins was remanded to Putnam County's jail without bail because he has two previous felony convictions, according to the sheriff's office. Giorgio, the sheriff's office added, "was committed to the jail in lieu of $25,000.00 cash bail or $50,000.00 bail bond."

A conviction on the charge, according to the sheriff's office, can bring a maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment and fines of as much as $15,000.00.
