Lucy Negri, 83, Longtime Croton Resident

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Lucy Negri of Croton-on-Hudson died June 25. She was 83.

Negri was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Minturno, Italy. Moving to the U.S. at the age of 8, she grew up in Yonkers. Negri worked as a telephone operator at New York Telephone Co. in her late teens. 

She married Eugene Negri on Nov. 4, 1956. The couple later moved to Croton-on-Hudson, where Negri lived for almost 42 years. She worked at schools and Elliot's Department Store. 

Negri was an active member of the Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton, where she taught religious education. She was also involved in Little League, Girl Scouts, the Croton Pointers Club and Croton Children's Theater. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, crafting, knitting, crocheting, cooking, traveling with her husband and spending time with her family. 

Negri is survived by her husband, Eugene, of Cortlandt Manor; two sons, Alfred Negri, of Houlton, Maine, and Eugene (Kathleen) Negri Jr., of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; three daughters, Catherine Anesi, of Peekskill, Lori (Jack) Hoye, of Cortlandt Manor, and Marie (Paul) Rigaud, of Mohegan Lake; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Croton-on-Hudson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name of Mary Church. A committal service will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Croton.
