Gertrude V. Mayer, 97, Of Buchanan, Secretary, Hendrick Hudson High School

BUCHANAN, N.Y. - Gertrude V. Mayer, a long-time resident of Buchanan, died Sept. 18. She was 97.

Mayer was born July 23, 1916, in Purdys, daughter of William A. and Katherine F. O'Neil Sullivan. She was a graduate of Good Counsel College in White Plains, earning a bachelor's degree in biology in 1938. She had a 20-year career as a secretary at Hendrick Hudson High School. She was a parishioner of St. Christopher's Church in Buchanan.

Mayer is survived by her children, Nancy Mayer of Fishkill, Susan Blodgett (Steven) of Northfield, Minn., and Robert Mayer (Karren) of Norfolk, Va.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Irwin J. Mayer; brothers, Kenneth F. Sullivan and William A. Sullivan, Jr.; and grandson, Thomas W. Bilello.

Calling hours are Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cortlandt Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at St. Christopher's Church in Buchanan. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Croton Falls.
