Curtis Instruments, which was founded in 1960 and is still based in Mount Kisco, announced Beusman's passing in a post on its website.

Mayor Michael Cindrich called Beusman a "brilliant man." Reflecting on Saw Mill Club's presence in the village, Cindrich called it a "destination location for our community."

Beusman was a key figure who helped Mount Kisco Child Care Center (MKCC), serving on its board of directors.

Dawn Meyerski, who is MKCCC's executive director, called Beusman an "incredible man." She also described him as a "magnificent, magnanimous" friend and donor.

Beusman was appointed to MKCCC's board in January 2010. An announcement from that time highlighted Beusman's various local endevors, which included having been chairman of the Capital Fund Committee for the Jacob Burns Film Center and a Chappaqua school board member

Beusman, who was known as "Curt," co-founded Curtis Instruments with Edward Marwell.

The company's announcement recalls how it was formed more than five decades ago.

"Marwell and Beusman had different and lighthearted recollections of how Curtis got its name," the company's announcement states. "Beusman claims they put their own names to the test and both decided that Curtis Instruments had a better ring to it than Edward Instruments. Since Beusman’s name was used for the company, Marwell was made president. Marwell remembers them flipping a coin, and while Beusman chose his own name for the company, Marwell chose the role of president."

Beusman left Curtis Instruments in the 1970s, the company said.

Beusman was preceded by his wife, Jane, and daughter Blair. Beusman is survived by his sons Robert and Rick. Rick Beusman is president of the Saw Mill Club.

Current and former IHSA officials fondly recalled Beusman; their thoughts can be read here.

Club Industry, a fitness-related trade publication that gave Beusman a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, has a roundup of reactions from industry figures, which can be read here.

Beusman's accompanying biography also noted that he received a bachelor of science degree from Northwestern University, an MBA from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. He supported Northern Westchester Hospital and Open Door, his biography added.

Beusman's work with MKCCC included establishing a scholarship children's fund named after his late wife, Jane. The first fundraiser for the scholarship, held in 2010, raised $175,000. Meyerski noted that people can donate to the fund in Beusman's honor.

Beusman was honored by MKCCC at its 2012 "Feed Me Fresh" fundraiser and served as an honorary co-chair for the same event two years later.

A memorial service is planned and details will be released later, Club Industry notes.
