The county is exploring alternative plans that would be more cost effective. Any alternative plan would require state and local Health Department approval, LoHud.com reported.

The Environmental Protection Agency sued the county in 2012 for failing to meet deadlines for compliance with ultraviolet water treatment. Fines from the suit could potentially cost the county $37,500 per day, according to LoHud.com.
