Westchester County Highways Start to Reopen

UPDATE, 3:05 P.M. -  The Sprain Brook Parkway is backed up for several miles southbound from I-287 to the Cross County Parkway, according to Main Street Connect reporter Danny LoPriore. Cars tried to get on and off the highway via the Jackson Avenue exit, which created a backup there from Route 9A to Central Avenue.

The parkway was also closed southbound earlier today at the Central Park Avenue exit and all traffic had to exit the highway at that point.

PELHAM, N.Y. – Some highways in Westchester County have started to reopen after the flooding caused by tropical storm Irene this weekend.

The Hutchinson River Parkway has completely reopened, according to Sgt. Chris Christiano of the Westchester County police.

The Saw Mill River Parkway is closed from the Cross County Parkway to Grant Street, both northbound and southbound.

The Bronx River Parkway is closed southbound from the Kensico Dam all the way to New York City. The parkway is closed northbound from the Sprain Brook Parkway split to the Kensico Dam.

Check back here for more updates on highway openings as they come, and check our Hurricane Irene page for more coverage of the storm and its aftermath.
