U.S. Attorney to Review Chamberlain Shooting

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York will review the evidence in the shooting death of Kenneth Chamberlain by White Plains police officers. Last week, a Westchester County grand jury found no reasonable cause to indict the officers.

Randolph McLaughlin, one of the Chamberlain family's lawyers, said they asked for a "criminal investigation" in the Nov. 19 incident in a written request to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

The U.S. Attorney's Office issued the following statement :"Consistent with our office's practices in cases of this kind, we will review all of the available evidence with respect to the death of Kenneth Chamberlain, including the evidence collected during the state’s investigation, to determine whether there were any violations of the federal criminal civil rights laws."

The evidence presented to the grand jury was made public by the White Plains Public Safety Department on May 3, the day after the grand jury handing up its findings. The evidence can be viewed on The Daily White Plains' YouTube channel. The evidence includes video and audio recordings from the taser gun used on Chamberlain, the Life Aid phone calls with Chamberlain , his sister and the police department , as well as photographs from the scene.

The Chamberlain family will hold a protest at White Plains City Hall Monday at 7 p.m., according to the "Justice for Kenneth Chamberlain" Facebook page set up by the former marine's son, Kenneth Chamberlain Jr.
