Two Injured in Severe Bear Mountain Crash

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – New York State Police are investigating the cause of a near head-on collision that sent two people to the hospital Friday evening, just after 6 p.m. The accident took place on the Bear Mountain State Parkway, a road infamous among Yorktown and Cortlandt residents for severe high speed crashes.

Investigator Sean Morgan said according to preliminary findings, it appears that a 1990 black Acura Integra travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed, crossed over the double yellow line, and collided with a 2010 gray Toyota Camry. There was only one driver in each car, and no witnesses have come forward.

The driver of the Acura, Kieth Holmes, 20, of Putnam Valley, was sent to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center in very critical condition, with head injuries, a pulmonary contusion and a fractured femur and pelvis.  Morgan said there were no new updates on Holmes condition as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The driver of the Toyota, Brian Ring, 39, of Beacon, was sent to Westchester Medical Center in stable condition with a minor head injury.

An accident reconstruction team responded to the scene of the accident, and investigators will know more about the accident in the coming days. It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, and road conditions were dry at the time of the accident.

Investigators are asking that any witnesses who may have seen the crash to come forward, and call 914-737-7171 with any information. All calls are confidential.
