Three Cortlandt Businesses Fail Alcohol Compliance

FRIDAY, JUNE 17

6 – 10 p.m. -- Westchester County Police conducted alcohol compliance checks at 12 businesses in the Town of Cortlandt to enforce underage drinking laws.

A person under the age of 21 was sent into a dozen establishments to attempt to purchase an alcoholic beverage.  Employees at nine of the stores refused to make a sale when the purchaser could not produce valid ID.  At three other businesses, clerks sold alcohol to the underage person. Those clerks were issued summonses charging them with Unlawful Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage to a Person Under Age 21.

Appearance tickets were issued to William Lewis, 25, of Peekskill, who works at Rite Aid Pharmacy on East Main Street, Mohegan Lake; Jesus Ortega, 31, of Peekskill, who works at the 123 Food Mart on Route 9, Cortlandt Manor; and Rajesh Gupta, 46, of Cortlandt Manor, who works at the Getty Food Mart on Route 202, Cortlandt Manor.

The businesses that passed the compliance check are: Oregon Shell, 1208 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor; Oregon Citgo, 95 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor; Post Road Deli, 109 Albany Post Road, Montrose; Trails End Deli, 173 6th St., Verplanck; DaRo's Deli, 102 Albany Post Road, Buchanan; Town Center Liquors, 3145 E. Main St., Mohegan Lake; Mobil On The Run,  2072 E. Main St., Cortlandt Manor; Mobil On The Run, 98 Roa Hook Road, Cortlandt Manor; and Montrose Deli, 4 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose.

SUNDAY, JUNE 19

6:10 p.m. – A woman reported to Westchester County Police that a man took her cell phone after she put it down along the banks of the Croton River near Quaker Bridge. The victim noticed the man walking away with her phone, but he got into a vehicle and drove away before she could confront him.

MONDAY, JUNE 20

11 a.m. – A person who attended the Clearwater Festival over the weekend returned to Croton Point Park to find that someone had stolen his tent and various contents estimated at $500 in value.

SATURDAY, JUNE 25

8 a.m. – A resident of Lynwood Road in Cortlandt Manor reported to Westchester County Police that her mailbox and three others along the street were vandalized overnight. The damage occurred sometime after 11 p.m. the night before.

11 a.m. – A resident of Skytop Drive reported to county police that a neighbor’s home had been burglarized while the homeowners were away on vacation. Detectives from the county police General Investigations Unit are investigating the break-in.
