Teatown is hosting "Treasures From The Attic" on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m., which involves bringing items from its attic, such as seashells, taxidermy mounts, furs, bones and rocks for patrons.
"Anyone can come and all are welcome," Teatown's Phyllis Boak said.
Boak said Teatown will be showing off items the nature preserve doesn't usually take out.
"This doesn't normally get seen," Boak said. "We will be talking about them, identifying and sharing them. We use a lot of our collection in our programs, we don't always bring out what we have. Some of these items haven't seen the light of day in years.
While the event is free for members, there will be a small charge for non-members. Boak expects around 15-20 people to be at the show.
"This is a way to bring in the community and share what we have," Boak said. "You can see our animal collection. You don't always get to see the beaver mount that we keep upstairs."
Other items include a glass case full of birds put together in the 1880s.
"You don't know where the discussion is going to lead," Boak said. "People have the change to get informed."
Teatown Nature Preserve runs weekend public programs almost every weekend. At around 1,000 acres it is the largest non-profit nature preserve in Westchester.
Teatown does outreach to schools running educational programs and has programs from preschools to adults. This year's EagleFest will be held on Feb. 8.
