Construction on the new Tappan Zee Bridge span was completed earlier than expected and all lanes have reopened and will remain so through the end of the weekend despite planned closures.

“The Thruway Authority is happy to report that Tappan Zee Constructors completed its work well ahead of schedule, " said Khurram Saeed, the New Bridge Project's direction of communications. "We began reopening northbound/westbound lanes on the Tappan Zee Bridge at 10 a.m.(Saturday). No further lane closures on the bridge are required this weekend."

Installation of new piles had been expected to cause closures through early afternoon Saturday and again Saturday evening until Sunday afternoon.

"We would like to thank motorists and the residents of Grand View and South Nyack for their patience and understanding during this time," Saeed said.
