CORTLANDT, N.Y. Hendrick Hudson Free Library and the Ossining Public Library will receive thousands in capital investment dollars from the New York State Library System.
Hendrick Hudson Free Library plans to use its $106,219 award to increase study, office, storage and custodial space, to offer patrons more vending services and to increase energy efficiency.

This grant affords us the opportunity to make needed cost saving and efficiency improvements to the facility, while providing added services to our community. We are excited to begin and look forward to the reaction of our patrons, said Jill Davis, Hendrick Hudsons library director.
The Ossining Public Library will receive $25,000 to upgrade air conditioning and replace system components, and preserve geothermal wells and pumps for maximum energy savings. These upgrades are intended to make the library more affordable and comfortable, according to a release from New York State Assembly member Sandy Galef (D-Ossining).
The Ossining Public Library was pleased to learn it is the recipient of a $25,000 energy conservation construction grant, said Jim Farrell, director of the Ossining Public Library. Not only will this help regulate climate, it will also conserve energy and be more cost effective, saving the taxpayers money."
More than 40 percent of the over 1,000 public library buildings in communities across New York are over 60 years old, states Galef's release. Another 30 percent are more than three decades old. Hendrick Hudson and Ossining are among 192 libraries statewide to receive a piece of the $14 million in grants.
The grants being awarded to 192 public libraries throughout New York are the first step toward enabling all public libraries to make changes that will transform the ways that community members are able to utilize their public libraries and save taxpayers money in the long-term.
