CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- ShopRite associates Sandra Puglielle of Newburgh and Shatai Dungie of Cortlandt Manor will be featured on special-edition Cheerios boxes for their Croton-on-Hudson store's involvement in a recent competition.
Stores from across six states competed in the annual ShopRite Partners in Caring Cheerios Contest with a "Lending a Hand for Hunger" theme.
The Croton store was one of the top 40 fundraising stores to be awarded with the selection of two ShopRite associates to feature on a special edition of 150,000 boxes of Cheerios.
Each winning store also received cash prizes of $3,000 for the top 5 and $500 for the remaining stores.
The special boxes will be unveiled at in-store celebrations throughout the month.
ShopRite associates collected donations at checkout and at various in-store events to raise more than $1.3 million to battle hunger.
“The 81 ShopRite associates featured on this year’s special-edition Cheerios box represent the caring and compassion that has come to symbolize the fight against hunger and the commitment of ShopRite Partners In Caring,” said Christine Magyarits, spokesperson for ShopRite Partners In Caring.
“Since ShopRite Partners In Caring began in 1999, a total of $40 million has been donated to local food banks to feed the hungry in our communities. The Cheerios Box contest is one of our favorite annual events and highlights many of our ‘partners’ in the fight against hunger – our dedicated ShopRite associates, our generous customers, and one of our long-time vendor partners, General Mills, who shares our passion for helping those in need of food assistance.”
