Several Bottled Water Brands Recalled

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Niagara Bottling, LLC has issued a voluntary recall due to concerns that one of its spring sources is contaminated with E. coli.

E. coli bacteria were found in one of Niagara’s spring sources June 10. These bacteria, caused by human or animal feces contaminating water, can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms and are a particular concern for people with weakened immune systems, the elderly, infants and young children.

The voluntary recall is for all spring water products produced at both the Hamburg, Pennsylvania and Allentown, Pennsylvania facilities from the timeframe of 3 a.m. (EDT) June 10 to 8 p.m. June 18. The products were sold under the brand names Acadia, Acme, Big Y, Best Yet, 7-11, Niagara, Nature’s Place, Pricerite, Superchill, Morning Fresh, Shaws, Shoprite, Western Beef Blue and Wegman’s.

The only affected products have barcodes that begin with the letter F (for Hamburg) or A (for Allentown).

Niagara has so far not received any complaints of illness. Niagara has discontinued the use of the water source.
