Saturday's Gateway Experience Caters to the Public

CORTLANDT, N.Y. — While the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce holds many events for local business people to mingle amongst themselves, this weekend they'll have a chance to mingle directly with the public.

Saturday's Hudson Valley Gateway Experience, which will be held at The Mansion at Colonial Terrace, will give area residents a chance to learn about some of the many businesses that call Northern Westchester home.

"We wanted to showcase the businesses to the local consumers that they may do business with, ones that they may even not be aware," explained chamber executive director Deb Milone.

Last year was the first time the chamber held this type of event, and Milone said it was a big success.

"Last year we had 500 people come through the door, and we're hoping for that again this year," Milone said.

Vendors range from the painting company Servepro, which will provide clown and face painting for children, to LaFarge North America, a Buchanan company that will give a presentation on how it makes wallboard. Other notable participants include Entergy and Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

The event, which starts at 11 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and runs until 5 p.m., will also feature area nonprofit organizations and volunteer groups such as  Lions and Rotary clubs.

There will also be live entertainment courtesy of Kirk Music Productions, Antonio Arts Wiz Kids and Dance Expression, among others.

Wine, beer and food tastings will also be available courtesy of vendors such as Division Street Grill, D. Bertoline & Sons and Dylan's Wine Cellar.

Saturday's event is among the few the chamber sponsors where member businesses spend time with consumers directly, and Milone said she wants both sides to benefit from it.

"We're encouraging the vendors to sell, because what we're trying to do, is promote business," she said.

Admission to Saturday's event is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children 12 and up. Free valet parking will be available. Go to the chamber's website for more information.
