The day's festivities will kick off at 11 a.m. with a parade featuring the Port Chester High School marching band, local dignitaries, staff, and the Playland mascot, Coaster the Dragon. The amusement park will open at noon. The band Reunion will be playing hits of the fifties, sixties and seventies during shows at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. on the Music Tower Theater stage.

Kids and families can enjoy science-based entertainment during "Mad about Science," which will perform at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Children can also dance along to their favorite songs with Playland's Kiddlyand DJ, who will be performing four "Play it DJ" shows.

The opening day admission price will be $15 for unlimited rides on May 11, 12, 18 and 19. Starting May 24 admission for unlimited rides will be $30, and $20 for anyone under 48 inches. Westchester residents with proof of residency will receive $5 off. Spectator admission, which does not include rides, is $10.

Season passes are $95 for unlimited rides, with a $15 discount for Westchester resident. Playland is running a special offer until Tuesday, April 30, where if you buy a season pass you get a free ride admission.

The amusement park will be open, but the main boardwalk and the pier will be closed due to damage from Hurricane Sandy. Work is under way to repair the damage. The boardwalk is expected to open in mid-May, and the beach and pool are expected to open June 21. The Ice Casino and north boardwalk were both heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy, and are not expected to open until 2014.

The rain date for opening day will be May 18.
