Pipeline Won't Impact Buchanan's Indian Point, NRC Says

BUCHANAN, N.Y. --The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said the proposed 42-inch natural gas pipeline set to run through the property of Indian Point in Buchanan will not pose any additional risk to the nuclear reactors on site, according to LoHud.com.

The Algonquin Pipeline is set to come across the river from Rockland County and cross less than a mile south of the two nuclear reactors in Buchanan. The project is intended to provide more natural gas to New England, LoHud.com reported. 

The project has met stiff opposition and one of the primary complaints was potential safety risks associated with having the pipeline so close to the plants, LoHud.com said.
