Traffic Safety and Government Affairs Director John Corlett announced recently that the city was cited for its many traffic safety efforts including the STOP DWI Program and the School Zone Traffic Enforcement Program.

The efforts of the Peekskill Police Officers "has enhanced the safety for those who utilize Peekskill’s many roadways resulting in an over 10 percent reduction in the number of motor vehicle accidents when compared to the previous year," according to Chief Eric Johansen.

All award winners in the New York Metropolitan area were honored during a luncheon ceremony held on Oct. 10 at the Carltun East Meadow.

"AAA has long recognized communities that make outstanding efforts to make the region’s roads safer for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians," AAA representatives said.

"The City of Peekskill Police Department remains committed to utilizing its many resources to enforce vehicle and traffic laws and is appreciative of the recognition by AAA New York," Peekskill Police Department representatives said.
