Peekskill High Grads Open Recording Studio in City

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. — Anyone aspiring to be the next American Idol, The Voice or a rock star can put his or her talents to work at Z Recording Studio in Peekskill.

The studio, owned by Priscilla Augustin and run by 2001 Peekskill High School graduates and twins Rahiim and Rashid Grant, has been open for about six weeks at 12 North Division St. The studio held its official ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday with city officials.

"It's very exciting to have them open a business in the heart of the downtown," said Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster.

Augustin and Rahiim Grant said they were thrilled to be in downtown Peekskill on the second floor, near Division Street Grill.

"We're so glad to be in Peekskill. We thought it was the perfect location," Augustin said. "We also just want to help out local people."

Westchester County Legislator John Testa, a teacher at Peekskill High School, recalled the Grant brothers being in his technology class.

"They were big into the music program also," Testa said.

Z Recording Studio offers a variety of services, including voice-overs, mixed tapes, album distribution and drums, piano and vocal coaching. It's open seven days a week by appointment only.

"It's something I always wanted to do," Rahiim said. "I have a passion for it. Peekskill has a lot of talent."
