OSSINING, N.Y. -- In October, Keenan House Kitchen and Tap Bar, a bar at 191 Main Street in Ossining, celebrated its grand opening. This week, it announced it was closing.

The popular bar suddenly announced its closure Tuesday on its Facebook page , citing unforeseen circumstances.

Jessica Vescio, co-owner of Keenan House with her husband Steve, announced the bar was seeking a new operator on Thursday.

"Despite numerous favorable reviews and strong community support, the owners closed the doors for personal reasons," a statement issued by Vescio said. "As longtime local residents, they were glad to have created a much-needed fresh and inviting destination in downtown Ossining.

"They have no doubt that their renovations to the historic Keenan building will soon be home to a new equally appealing hotspot."

Vescio said local residents were optimistic that a new restaurateur would reopen the doors quickly. In October at the grand opening, the Vescios, residents of Briarcliff, said this was something the community needed.

"Ossining has a lot of potential," Steven Vescio said. "It was a logical fit for us. There was a need for great American cuisine with great beers. We get people from all walks of life. We have people who come in for lunch and people who come in for happy hour. There's not a place like this in a 15-mile radius."

On Facebook, where the announcement was made, residents reacted negatively.

"Oh no! You were a glimmer of hope for Ossining. Please come back!" Melissa Magnotta Humphrey wrote.

"Very sad, we need more restaurants in Ossining," Lori Ann Garan Polidoro wrote.

In a statement, the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce said they were saddened by Keenan's House closure.

"They were an excellent establishment and positive energy for downtown Ossining," said the chamber.
