Mayor Victoria Gearity introduced Zambrano, a Cortlandt Manor resident, at village hall on Tuesday morning. Zambrano will start on May 27 and is replacing Richard Leins, who is retiring after six years as village manager.
Zambrano has been village manager of Croton-on-Hudson, since January 2008. Zambrano has also served as village treasurer and deputy manager in Croton.
“We look forward to Abe's leadership in furthering our goals of improving communication, government efficiency and a vibrant economy,” said Gearity. “The first three months of 2015 have been very productive and exciting for this board. But no single decision will have as great an impact on our local government as the selection of Abe Zambrano to be our next village manager."
Zambrano said he was excited to be working with the village board.
"This is a wonderful group of people," Zambrano said. "This is a great community."
The incoming village manager said he liked the energy and diversity Ossining has to offer.
"I'm looking forward to coming to work here everyday," Zambrano said.
Zambrano said he wants to bring more economic development to Ossining.
"We want it to become a shining star on the Hudson," Zambrano said.
Village Trustee Bob Daraio said he was thrilled by Zambrano's appointment.
"The process was extraordinary," Daraio said. "All five of the trustees had the same idea of what a manager should be me. We wanted someone who understands the working relationship between the staff and the village board."
With 40 percent of Ossining's population bilingual, Daraio said the fact that Zambrano is fluent in Spanish was very important.
