An 18-year-old female was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence. Her 17-year-old passenger was charged with possession of a controlled substance as well. The two girls were in holding cells after having allegedly used heroin shortly before their arrest, police said.

When the two girls became unresponsive, the corrections officer contacted a nurse and subsequently administered the nasal spray Narcan. The two teens were immediately revived, police said.

This marks the first time Narcan has been used by a corrections or patrol officer since the antidote was issued in April, police said.

The girls were transported to area hospitals and were issued court dates for their charges, police said.
