RYE, N.Y. County workers said a man tried to turn over a Harley Davidson motorcycle for Westchester Countys Household Material Recovery Days.
The motorcycle was returned to the man, as were several television sets other residents were trying to get rid of, county workers said.
Cars lined up in the Rye Playland parking lot as workers were busy collecting materials residents no longer want or need. The workers accepted everything from automotive fluids, jewelry, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries and car tires over the course of Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and afternoon, as they loaded shredders and sanitation trucks.
The county will host another Household Material Recovery Days event on Sept. 22 at the county recycling center in Yonkers. Still, if residents have materials they still want to dispose of sooner, they can make an appointment to drop items off at the Household Material Recovery Facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla. The facility is open from 10 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. All appointments must be made at least two weeks in advance. For more information, call 914-813-5425.
