Metro-North Fare Increase To Take Effect In March

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority  on Thursday approved a hike in fares and tolls by an average of 4 percent, according to LoHud.com.

The fare and toll increases will take effect in March and are being implemented to balance the MTA's budget, LoHud.com said. 

Approximately 80 percent of Metro-North riders will see an increase of about 4.25 percent. In addition, subway fares will increase, with individual ride fares going up 25 cents and 30-day MetroCards increasing by $4.50, LoHud.com said. 

Metro-North and the MTA last increased fares by an average of 8 percent to 9 percent two years ago, LoHud.com reported.
