Cortlandt Cancer Patient Honored In Mount Kisco

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Five local cancer patients were recognized recently in Mount Kisco in anticipation of a major cancer research benefit event coming in November.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter recognized the five local cancer patients and their families at the "Light The Night Walk Kickoff Party" on Aug. 8 at Grand Prix New York in Mount Kisco, according to a news release.

The 2013 Westchester Light The Night Walk will take place at 5 p.m. on Nov. 2  at Playland Amusement Park in Rye. LLS’s Light The Night Walk funds lifesaving research and support for people battling cancer, according to the release. The walk also honors "local blood cancer survivors and commemorates individuals who have lost their lives to these diseases," according to the release.

The 2013 Westchester Honored Patients include Carol Deleso, of Tuckahoe, a survivor of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML); Brian Froehlich, of Cortlandt Manor, a survivor of Hodgkin’s disease; and Christina Palmieri, of New Rochelle, a survivor of Hodgkin’s disease, according to the release. 

The Westchester In Memory Honorees are Dean Dimitriou, of New Rochelle, who died of Hodgkin’s disease at the age of 53 in December, and Monique Williams of Yorktown Heights, who died of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at the age of 16 in September. Last year, the three Westchester/Hudson Valley Walks in Westchester, Rockland, and Orange Counties included more than 5,000 walkers who collectively raised $856,000.  Nationally, Light The Night raised $55 million in 2012, according to the release.  To register or volunteer for this year’s Light The Night Walk, residents can visit the group's webpage. visit or call 914-821-8362.
